What is it about darkness that makes us feel afraid? Is it just a deeper fear of the unknown? Or a feeling of helplessness from suddenly losing one of our senses? Regardless of where it comes from, darkness is a common childhood fear. And although we may gradually grow out of it as we age, there are elements of the dark that will always make us feel something.
Artists and photographers alike have been taking advantage of the power of darkness for years. Whether it is via exposure adjustments or simply shooting at night, black water can create a compelling contrast in any underwater photograph.
